who was in Java two weeks ago, the country seems quiet and she felt
relatively secure. Of course it' s not the moment to go to Sumatra
(where Aceh is located).
Anyway we booked some flights on Lufthansa several months ago and
despite the insurance we paid we can't cancel nor change our flight
for another place (not even the date) bacause there is some problems
in the country. These fucking airline companies have become very very
strict about the conditions on the international flights tickets.
To conclude if we don't leave we lose about 1000 US$ each... which is
a good way to convince us to go !
But I'm not really afraid since the crisis is limited to Aceh. SARS
is
not a problem either (a lot of noise but...). My only worry is about
the risk of bombings due to the operations in Aceh and the Bali
terrorists trial. There have been several bombings since Bali but I
think that if you avoid Jakarta (we don't like big cities anyway) and
more particularly tourist places (night-clubs, restaurants...) and
Mac
Donalds, the risk is small.
We really need to see and live something different so... Inch'allah !
