Hi Rob,
I have just returned from RTW and have been to several places on your
list including Tahiti, Cuba, Argentina. Will write a few postings on
these.
With regard to the other responses on Tahiti, YES, it is expensive,
but with pounds not so bad for you. You should try travelling on the
kiwi dollar!
Definitely don't stay on Tahiti, Moorea is much nicer. We camped
very inexpensively at Chez Armelle, they have a site on the web,
can't remember the details sorry. Our tent was less than 10 metres
from the beautiful blue lagoon. They also have basic rooms you share
with others which have a higher cost for the first night and then
cheaper for extra nights. Showers are a communal block and are cold
but that was not really a worry since the air temp was hot.
Getting around the island is easy, hitchhike with a local, or catch
the bus, it meets the ferries but also has a regular timetable too.
Everyone is very friendly and helpful.
Food, well depends how active you are but at Chez Armelle they have
cooking facilities and freezers to keep food cold. We managed quite
well on pineapples, bread, cheese, pate and beer.
Hope this helps
Cheers Pip, sunny Queensland, Australia
